Training

            Puppy Preschool

Like people pre-school, this is where we learn to social properly, follow direction and practice our manners.  This class is designed to teach the owner how to recognize and praise positive behavior while correcting unwanted behaviors.  Several theories are taught including handling (toenail trims demystified) house training, nutrition and the basic obedience commands to get through the first six months (right-here, sit, down, wait, stay, come here, leave-it and go-to-your-bed, etc).  Owners and puppies alike will leave this class feeling a much stronger connection to each other as well as having tools to handle each new challenge puppy-hood can throw their way.

Here is a bio on Jennifer Wesson our new trainer at Lucky Dog:

I have been a dog trainer and behavior consultant for almost 9 years. I am a member in good standing of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and
stay abreast of new theories and research all the time. I worked for 3 years at the Academy of Canine Behavior in Bothell where I was the training manager when I left to start a family. Since having my children I continue to do private lessons and group classes as they present themselves. I keep sharp "training" my two kids and keeping my 9 year old German Shepherd up to speed as well. My training philosophy is one of positive interaction between owner and animal. I teach owners not just how to get their dog to sit but how to better communicate with their dog leading to a better relationship. I do this by teaching canine behavior to owners. Once we know why our dogs behave a certain way, it becomes easier to solve problems and teach new behaviors we do want. Understanding our dogs potential and supporting owners leads to a longer, better, more fulfilling relationship between owner and dog. I enjoy teaching and hope that each student walks out the door after each session glad they took my class and wanting to come back each week.
